The relevance of the work is due to the need to conserve resources and involve man-made waste from the coal and aluminum industries in the production of carbonaceous materials for metallurgy. The aim of the study was to obtain agglomerated coke from the coal fines of the Ekibastuz basin and the anodic cinder of aluminum production with an assessment of its mechanical, structural and chemical properties. The work uses methods of briquetting, coking at a temperature of 1150 ° C in a reducing atmosphere, chemical analysis, strength testing and IR-Fourier spectroscopy. It was found that the optimal composition of the charge (50% coal, 20% anode cinder and 30% coal pitch) provides compressive strength up to 3.2 MPa, impact strength up to 8 drops without fracture and a carbon content of about 85%. FTIR analysis showed the formation of a predominantly aromatic carbon structure with a high degree of carbonation. The practical significance of the work lies in the possibility of using the obtained coke in sintering production, and the theoretical one is to expand the understanding of the structural transformations of carbon-containing compositions during coking.
