ALGORITHM FOR AUTOMATIC DETECTION OF DEFECTS IN WELDED JOINTS IN A VIDEO SEQUENCE BASED ON COMPARISON OF BRIGHTNESS HISTOGRAMS

The paper discusses the problem of automatic detection of surface defects in welded joints of stainless steel pipes during manufacture. An algorithm for solving the problem based on comparing brightness distribution histograms of digital images is proposed. Experimental studies of the algorithm by processing frames of video sequences obtained from a static camera have been conducted. The algorithm makes it possible to detect the presence of defects and localize the defect areas on the frames of video sequences. The studies confirmed the efficiency of the algorithm.
